10 Everyday Items to use as Photo Props for Instagram Success

1| Coffee Mugs

We all drink coffee, right? How else do you stay fueled to be a big boss lady?! Coffee mugs are pretty much found in everyone’s homes. Hopefully, you have one cutesy cup that you can use in your pictures! If not, coffee cups are very inexpensive and super cute ones can be found at Marshall’s and TJmaxx.

2| Office Supplies

Pull out ALL of your office supplies. Paper clips, pencils, pens, staplers, sticky notes, notepads, stickers, erasers, binders, folders, pen holders, and clipboards. If you feel that your office supplies are not cute enough, then keep that in mind when shopping for future office supplies. Try to purchase items in your branding color scheme to help with the flow of your images.

If you are a crafter like me, then you definitely own a lot of crafting supplies. Twine, pencil colors, markers, pens, paint brushes, paint, fabric, washi tape. Lots of fun ways to bring in pops of color to your photos. If you stay far away from crafts, Hobby Lobby has a good clearance section that you can look through and they ALWAYS have a 40% off coupon on their app.

4| Tech Devices

Tech devices are a necessity to run a business so we all have at least 1 tech device on hand. Smart phones, smart pads, laptops, keyboards, computers, earbuds, iPods, Fitbits, and Apple watch.

5| Stationery/Notecards

I LOVE collecting stationery! It’s one of my favorite things to collect and hunt for while I am out shopping. Cards, envelopes, stationery, and notebooks. I have a whole drawer dedicated to all of those items.

6| Home Decor Items

Start pulling from all of your cute home decor items. Trays, ring dishes, candles, books, small accent pieces, and textures/fabrics. If you don’t currently have any items in your home decor to use, then visit discount stores like Marshall’s, Ross, and TJmaxx for budget friendly items. They will often have their discounted items on clearance!

7| Plants/Flowers

I am a sucker for plants. Every time I visit Home Depot I seem to come back with a plant. Succulents and indoor plants are actually pretty cheap so you can stock up on a few and rotate them in and out of your images. Fresh flowers can get on the expensive side if you go to a florist.

Try to find fresh flowers cheaper by going to Whole Foods Market, The Fresh Market, or a local grocery store.Click To Tweet Roses and Tulips are always going to be your most expensive so try looking at the lesser expensive flowers like daisies, carnations, and hydrangeas.

8| Food

I adore food. Probably a little too much. I always have tasty treats on hand that I can easily incorporate into my images. Bagels, pretty wrapped chocolates, biscotti, fresh fruit, artisan bread, cookies, macaroons. If you don’t keep treats on hand, you will surely find some at your local grocer in their bakery section. Who doesn’t love a prop you can eat after?!

9| Makeup

If you are female, I am going to guess that you have makeup on hand. Even if you are someone that tries to keep it  Au-Naturale, I am sure you have at the very least some makeup basics. Mascara, lip balm, lip gloss, blush, powder, foundation, lipstick, eyelash curler, lotion bottles, finger nail polish, flat iron, blow dryer and perfume bottles.

10| Personal Accessories

Go raid your closet and friend’s closets. Pull out jewelry, sunglasses, watches, hats, shoes, tops, bottoms, you name it!

I try to pull as many props that I can that I already own. This will save me time shopping around and money. You can easily rotate out your items to keep your images fresh.
